Adler obeys Pelosi directive to avoid issues, personally attack opponent

Mount Laurel, September 7, 2010 – Career politician John Adler (NJ-3) was cited by the New York Times this weekend for joining the ranks of a growing number of desperate incumbent Democrats who are avoiding a discussion on important issues like the economy and instead opting to launch personal negative attacks against their opponents at the behest of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, charged the campaign of Republican challenger Jon Runyan today.

The article indicates that Pelosi and other House Democrat leaders “…are preparing a brutal triage of their own members in hopes of saving enough seats to keep a slim grip on the majority.”

“After 22 years in elected office, the end is near for career politician John Adler and he knows it,” said Runyan spokesman Chris Russell. “After recklessly taxing, spending and borrowing New Jersey to the brink of bankruptcy, and now voting with Nancy Pelosi more than 90% of the time in Congress, all Adler has left are misleading personal attacks in an effort to cling to power. Even the New York Times questioned whether voters have reached the point where they are no longer even listening to Democrats like Adler.”

TRUTH: Adler’s attack is a complete fabrication. The property was assessed as farmland when the Runyan’s bought it and is in full compliance with the law.

ATTACK: Adler claims Runyan is “scamming” the system.
TRUTH: Runyan’s farmland assessment is supported by the NJ Farm Bureau. Despite his newfound outrage, during his 16 years in the State Senate Adler didn’t do anything to change the state’s farmland assessment law – he supported it.

Try as he may, John Adler can’t run from his record as a tax and spend Liberal.

Career politician John Adler’s latest personal attack on Jon Runyan has been called “misleading” by FactCheck.org.  The truth is that Jon and his wife pay nearly $60,000 in property taxes on their home in Mount Laurel – more than eight times the state average – and the legal farmland assessment on a portion of their property is endorsed by the NJ Farm Bureau.  Furthermore, while Adler’s claims to be outraged about the state’s farmland assessment law today, the fact of the matter is that he supported the law during his 16 years in the State Senate.  Another dose of hypocrisy from a desperate politician trying to cling to power.

Runyan Calls Adler’s Negative Attack “Pathetic and Predictable”

Slams Adler for selective outrage over state’s farmland assessment law

Mount Laurel, September 1, 2010 – Republican congressional candidate Jon Runyan (NJ-3) released the following statement in response to the latest negative attacks from career politician John Adler.

“This latest personal attack is a desperate attempt by career politician John Adler to smear me and distract attention away from our failing economy, extreme unemployment and his record of voting with Nancy Pelosi more than 90% of the time in Congress,” said Runyan. “It’s equal parts pathetic and predictable.”

“It’s been widely-reported that a portion of our family property was assessed as farmland when we bought it. We are in full compliance with the law and pay nearly $60,000 per year in property taxes,” added Runyan.

Runyan also slammed Adler for his selective and convenient outrage over the state’s farmland assessment program.

“If John Adler is so outraged over the how the state’s farmland assessment program is implemented, then why didn’t he do anything to change it during his 16 years as a State Senator in Trenton?” asked Runyan. “This is just another example of a hypocritical, career politician talking out of both sides of his mouth.”

“From having close family members who have served our country in combat to his own personal efforts on behalf of the USO and NJ Family Readiness Council, Jon Runyan has always had a deep respect and appreciation for our active military and our veterans,” said Chris Russell, a spokesman for Runyan.

“Furthermore, we are confident that when individual veterans across the district are made aware of career politician John Adler’s record of voting for more than one hundred tax and fee increases as a State Senator, and voting with Nancy Pelosi more than 90% of the time in Congress, they will send him into retirement this November.”

Eagleton Institute Poll Spells Trouble for Career Politician Adler

Incumbent Congressman barely gets over 30% of the vote;
Runyan leads amongst those paying close attention to the race

Mount Laurel, August 10, 2010 – The campaign of Republican congressional candidate Jon Runyan (NJ-3) had the following statement in response to the independent Eagleton Institute poll released today:

“Despite spending more than a half-million dollars in taxpayer money on glossy campaign mail and recorded phone messages trying to give himself an extreme makeover, career politician and Nancy Pelosi-rubberstamp, John Adler, barely gets over 30% of the vote in the Eagleton Institute poll released today – and embarrassingly bad result for any incumbent Congressman,” said Runyan Campaign Consultant Chris Russell. “Furthermore, among voters who say they are paying close attention to the race, Jon Runyan actually leads Adler 36-35%.”

Russell said the poll debunks, once and for all, the phony internal poll that Adler released last month, while also pointing out recent editorials in the race critical of Adler, to underscore Runyan’s growing momentum in the race.

The Burlington County Times editorialized today that Adler’s abuse of franked mailing privileges were “pushing the ethical envelope” and called it “under-the-radar campaign literature.” While the Asbury Park Press called Adler out for the Tea Party Plant Scandal engulfing his campaign by saying: “Adler’s tepid disavowal in Saturday’s Press reeks of plausible deniability, has an air of desperation about it and stinks of Camden County politics as usual.”

“We feel great about these numbers. They prove that our campaign has all the momentum in this race, and that John Adler’s economy-wrecking track record of higher taxes, runaway spending and irresponsible debt will send him into retirement this November,” added Russell. “You can bet this will only ramp-up the desperation in Adler’s camp and intensify their torrent of negative, personal attacks against Jon Runyan in the weeks ahead.”

But Adler’s tepid disavowal in Saturday’s Press reeks of plausible deniability, has an air of desperation about it and stinks of Camden County politics as usual.

The editorial quoted Adler as saying “I’m not concerned about tactics.”
